Quantifying the impact of no?till on runoff in southern Brazil at hillslope and catchment scales

No-till (NT) is a conservation system that improves the hydrological regime of agricultural slopes by providing greater surface protection and benefits to physical properties soils. However, isolated use NT not enough control runoff its associated degradation processes. Therefore, this study aimed evaluate under different conditions monitoring 63 rainfall events in two 2.4-ha zero-order catchments 27 four 0.6-ha macroplots. The are paired similar terms type soil relief, but regarding presence terraces. macroplots have crop management systems. By using techniques, hyetographs hydrographs revealed influence types on allowed characteristics, volume, coefficients, water infiltration, peak runoff, response times, curve number be analysed. terraces positively affected controlled related variables, addition infiltration significantly increasing reducing terraced catchment. All information assessed pointed positive effects provided results showed high amounts phytomass and/or chiselling do correlated variables medium magnitude events. concludes underlining need for additional measures (terraces), even areas with production. Additionally, emphasizes importance at catchment scale better understand behaviour provide necessary parameters effectively runoff.
